A shooting investigation is underway in Miami County after authorities discovered a gunshot victim following a reported crash late Thursday night.

According to the Indiana State Police, troopers and deputies from the Miami County Sheriff’s Office responded around 11 p.m. to a report of an accident near U.S. 31 and County Road 200 North.

When officers arrived, they found two people at the scene, including one person suffering from a gunshot wound. Investigators said additional individuals were reportedly seen running into a nearby wooded area.

Indiana State Police used K-9 units, drones, and a helicopter to search the area, but no additional suspects were located. Authorities did recover a firearm during the search.

Investigators later determined the gunshot was fired from inside the vehicle involved in the incident.

Police also arrested 19-year-old Jadyn E. Watts, of Niles, after officers allegedly found him in possession of a narcotic drug. Watts was booked into the Miami County Jail on a Level 6 felony charge.
