Elkhart Police investigated a reported bomb threat on Tuesday afternoon that prompted lockdowns at several Elkhart Community Schools buildings.

Police say a caller contacted 911 around 4 p.m. claiming to be a student. The caller reported receiving a text from a juvenile male who allegedly said he was in a vehicle at the Elkhart High School Freshman Division with a gun and a bomb.

Officers searched the Freshman Division at 1 Blazer Blvd. and its parking lot but found nothing matching the report. As a precaution, police also cleared Elkhart High School at 2608 California Road and North Side Middle School at 300 Lawrence St.

School lockdowns were lifted after police determined there was no immediate threat. Investigators say the claims have not been substantiated and there is currently no indication the report was credible.

The investigation remains ongoing.
