A 19-year-old South Bend man is facing felony charges in connection with a September 19 shooting at Eddy Street Commons that injured a teenage girl and a South Bend police officer.

The St. Joseph County Prosecutor’s Office says the shooting happened in a crowded area near Notre Dame as a football game was beginning.

Investigators spoke with witnesses and reviewed surveillance video before identifying the suspect. The suspect, Anthony Taylor, turned himself in over the weekend.

He is charged with battery by means of a deadly weapon, a Level 5 felony; criminal recklessness, a Level 5 felony; and criminal recklessness, a Level 6 felony.

A Level 5 felony carries a possible sentence of one to six years in prison. A Level 6 felony carries a sentencing range of six months to 2 1/2 years.

The suspect was arraigned Monday and was ordered held on $10,000 bond. His next court hearing is scheduled for October 21.

Authorities say both victims are expected to make a full recovery. Charges are accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
