Wrong-way driver arrested on Indiana Toll Road in LaPorte County
Indiana State Police arrested a 51-year-old Naperville, Illinois, man after troopers say he was driving the wrong way on the Indiana Toll Road.
A state police trooper was patrolling eastbound near mile marker 48.6 around 11:20 p.m. Central time on Wednesday, Aug. 19, when she saw a silver 2025 Nissan traveling westbound in the eastbound lanes.
The trooper activated her emergency lights and siren and turned around to stop the vehicle. Police said the driver, identified as Kamal Abdallah, stopped on the right shoulder about a mile later.
Several eastbound drivers reportedly had to take evasive action to avoid the Nissan as it traveled toward them, according to police.
The trooper, who is trained as a Drug Recognition Expert, suspected Abdallah was impaired by a controlled substance. An investigation led to his arrest.
During an inventory of the vehicle before it was impounded, troopers found pills identified as a controlled substance and a THC vape pen, police said.
Abdallah was arrested on multiple charges, including reckless driving, operating while intoxicated, operating while intoxicated on a controlled substance, operating while intoxicated endangerment, possession of a controlled substance, possession of paraphernalia and possession of marijuana.
He was taken to the LaPorte County Jail.
