Woman injured after suspect fleeing Elkhart County Police crashes into SUV

A woman was injured when a driver allegedly fleeing police crashed into her vehicle at a rural Elkhart County intersection.

The crash happened just after 1 a.m. on Saturday, May 30, at the intersection of County Road 26 and County Road 9.

According to the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Office, a 19-year-old Elkhart man was driving a 2013 Dodge Durango south on County Road 9 while fleeing from the Elkhart Police Department at speeds approaching 100 miles per hour.

Investigators say a 50-year-old Elkhart woman driving a 2022 Kia Telluride east on County Road 26 entered the intersection when the Durango struck the rear driver’s side of her vehicle.

The woman suffered a concussion and chest contusion and was transported to Elkhart General Hospital for treatment.

Both vehicles sustained heavy damage. The driver of the Durango was not injured.

The crash remains under investigation by the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Office Crash Investigation Team. Potential charges against the driver of the Durango are pending.
