South Bend Cubs postpone home season opener for as second time

The South Bend Cubs postponed Saturday’s game against the Quad Cities River Bandits due to unplayable field conditions.

In a 6 p.m. update posted to the team’s Facebook page, officials said the infield at Four Winds Field remained unsuitable for play despite several hours of work by the grounds crew.

The game had already been delayed from its original 4:05 p.m. start time to 6:15 p.m. in an effort to allow time for field improvements. However, after more than three hours of work following the tarp’s removal, conditions did not improve enough to proceed.

It marks the second consecutive postponement of the team’s season and home opener, after Friday night’s game was also called off less than an hour before first pitch.

South Bend and Quad Cities will be a 7-inning double header on Easter Sunday. Gates open at 12:30 p.m. and first pitch of game one is scheduled for 2:05 p.m.

The team said tickets from Saturday’s game can also be exchanged for any 2026 regular-season game, pending availability.
