Police investigating shooting on South Bend’s West Side, two injured
The South Bend Police Department’s Violent Crimes Unit is investigating a shooting that left one man injured and another person hurt in a separate incident.
Officers were dispatched just after 12 a.m. on Friday, April 3, to the 3400 block of West Western Avenue following a ShotSpotter alert. While officers were en route, the call was updated to a report of a fight and then later to a shooting.
When officers arrived, they began gathering information and soon learned the male shooting victim had already left the scene and gone to the 5300 block of West Western Avenue. He was later transported to a nearby hospital.
Police say the man suffered a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to the upper body and is currently listed in stable condition.
A female at the original scene was also reported injured, though authorities say her injuries were minor and not related to gunfire.
The investigation remains ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to contact the South Bend Police Detective Bureau or submit anonymous tips through Michiana Crime Stoppers.
