Portage Township Trustee Jason Critchlow enters 2027 South Bend mayor’s race

Portage Township Trustee Jason Critchlow has announced plans to run for mayor of South Bend in 2027, becoming the first candidate to formally enter the race.

Critchlow announced his campaign Monday in a video posted on Facebook.

It will be Critchlow’s second campaign for mayor. He finished second in a nine-candidate Democratic primary in 2019, which was won by James Mueller. Mueller went on to win the general election and is now serving his second term.

Mueller has not announced whether he will seek a third term in 2027.

Critchlow currently serves as township trustee and is unopposed in his reelection campaign this November.

South Bend voters will elect a mayor, city clerk and members of the Common Council in November 2027.
