Eleven people, including eight children, were taken to hospitals after a Warren Township school bus overturned Tuesday morning on northbound I-465 after colliding with an Indiana State Police pickup truck.

The crash happened around 10 a.m. just north of Washington Street on Indianapolis’ east side.

The bus was carrying students from Creston Intermediate Middle School. ISP says 24 students and three adults were on board.

Eight children and three adults were taken to hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries. The other students were also taken to a hospital to be checked out and reunited with their families.

Two state troopers inside the ISP pickup were also hurt and taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The collision caused the bus to roll onto its side and come to rest against a concrete barrier. The ISP pickup had heavy front-end damage.

The crash closed several northbound lanes and caused major backups. Southbound traffic was also affected.

ISP says all lanes reopened around 1:22 p.m. after the crash scene was cleared.

ISP Sgt. John Perrine says all of the students were accounted for and transported from the scene. He also asked parents and family members not to go to the crash site.
