69-year-old man killed in crash in Elkhart County

One person is dead following a two-vehicle crash in Elkhart County.

The crash happened around 1:35 p.m. on Sunday, May 10, on Old U.S. Highway 20 west of Pine Arbor Drive, according to the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Office.

Investigators say a 2018 Ford Escape traveling west crossed the center line and collided with an eastbound 2017 Jeep Compass.

The driver of the Ford, 69-year-old Ralph Elswick, was taken to Elkhart General Hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

Police say the driver of the Jeep suffered hip and leg pain along with head lacerations and was taken to the hospital for treatment.

A passenger in the Ford was transported to Memorial Hospital in South Bend, treated for broken ribs and later released.

The crash remains under investigation by the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Office.
